It used to be that all it took to be a country star
Was to sing a simple song and be just who you are
Make a good recording and put it on the radio
Just make an honest living that’s how it used to go
But now a days there’s a different way to make it to the top
Now its more a one man show then it is about mom and pop
Handsome boys and pretty girls and dazzling light shows
Face Book iTunes fancy marketing and Youtube videos
I’d never make it in country music I don’t even have a doubt
I don’t own a skimpy outfit I won’t be lettin’ it all hang out
I don’t wear those skin tight clothes just to show my well shaped bod
I don’t care to be an idol for one should only worship God
I could never be a spectacle for all the world to see
I’d never make it in country music but that’s alright with me
I guess that it's just that I am an old time guitar picker
Perhaps I’m settled in my ways and just a tab bit bitter
Fortune never came my way but that doesn’t bother me
Just strumming tunes on my front porch I’m as happy as I can be
